Ron Barcelo is a Spanish rum producer in the Dominican Republic, a Caribbean island nation. D. Julian Barcelo immigrated to the Dominican Republic from Mallorca in 1929 and founded the company the following year with the goal of producing the country's number one rum. Now in its third generation, the company is in business. In 2000, with investment from Spanish winemaker Marqués de Vargas and spirits manufacturer MG, the company established Barcelo Internacional and, with the establishment of a new distillery, began focusing on exports. Made from the finest sugarcane, the rum is aged in bourbon barrels. It is the only rum in the Dominican Republic made from fermented sugarcane juice, rather than molasses.
This special limited edition rum is a variation of the flagship brand "Imperial," aged in rare Japanese Mizunara casks. Carefully selected, top-quality rums are aged in barrels with varying degrees of toast, managed by experienced coopers. Once blended, the rum is aged for a year in Mizunara casks, resulting in a complex, distinctive, powerful, woody flavor.
