Aber Falls Distillery opened in 2017 as the first whisky distillery in North Wales in over 100 years, and is located at the foot of the majestic Rhaeadr Fawr (Welsh for "Aber Falls"). The barley used is sourced from a farm in Pembrokeshire on the west coast of Wales, making it the only distillery in Wales to use 100% Welsh malt. The entire process, from production to bottling, is completed on-site at the distillery, and the spirit is aged in four types of casks: bourbon barrels, American virgin oak, Pedro Ximenez sherry casks, and Oloroso sherry casks. This single malt is a genuine 100% Welsh whisky. It has a creamy and light taste and is reasonably priced, making it perfect for everyday drinking or as a highball.
(Tasting notes) Aroma: Aromas of vanilla and toffee, candied citrus, fig and sultanas, balanced with a subtle hint of clove. Taste: Sweet sherry aromas with dried fruit and spices spread, complemented by forest fruit flavors, creamy malt, nuts, dark chocolate and espresso flavors. Finish: A long-lasting aftertaste of dried fruit with a hint of spice.
