Akkeshi Distillery was established in 2016 along the coast of Akkeshi Town, located further east than Kushiro in the eastern region of Hokkaido, and aims to produce whisky similar to Islay malt, taking advantage of its location.
This "Risshu" is the 20th in the "24 Solar Terms Series" from Akkeshi Distillery. A pale moon quietly sends off the departing summer, reflected on the surface of Lake Akkeshi, and the Perseid meteor shower dances down on the night. Akkeshi malt, aged for many years, exudes a citrus aroma with a soft peaty flavor. The key malt is made from raw spirits aged in Mizunara oak barrels from Hokkaido.
(Tasting notes)
Aroma: Peach and apricot compote, vanilla custard pudding, brown sugar syrup, dried persimmon, and a soft smoky aroma reminiscent of a bonfire. Taste: Lemon cake, orange macaroons, and a light acidity reminiscent of ramune candy. Aftertaste: Coarsely ground black pepper, a savory spiciness reminiscent of ginger soy sauce, and the gentle sweetness of lemon candy.
