The "Pot Still" series is made up of products differentiated by the unique "first distillation stills" that are unique to Shizuoka Distillery. The reason for this is the two very unique stills at Shizuoka Distillery. One is Still W, made in Scotland, which is heated using an open fire of wood. The other is Still K, which was relocated from the now-closed Karuizawa Distillery.
The W still produces powerful, full-bodied whiskeys, while the K still produces vibrant, fruity whiskeys. The "Pot Still W" and "Pot Still K" series express the differences in flavors produced by each still.
This single malt whiskey is made in a W still using imported barley, combining peated malt from Scotland with German beer (pilsner) malt for a powerful flavor. It has a subtle smokiness and a pleasant aroma from direct flame distillation. It's the most robust and profound of the "Pot Still" series.
