Gevrey-Chambertin is the largest village in the Côte de Nuits, with nine Grand Cru vineyards, and is equally popular with Vosne-Romanée. Renowned for its mellow, powerful, and masculine wines, since the beginning of this century, a new generation of winemakers have been working together with particular enthusiasm to rediscover the true essence of Pinot Noir.
One of the most prominent producers is Henri Magnan. This venerable producer, which has been in business in the village of Gevrey since 1656, has enjoyed a strong following since then, and its wines have sold out every year, so there was little motivation to significantly improve quality. However, his son Charles, who joined the winemaking team in 2007, has made extensive reforms in everything from cultivation to brewing, through exchanges of information with Arnaud Mortet and Bertrand Dugas, and has achieved a major improvement in quality.
Charles' wine philosophy is "to create a delicate and aromatic wine that is unique to the Pinot Noir grape variety. It is a round and well-balanced wine with elegant, silky tannins. We limit any interference (techniques, additives, etc.) that is thought to "correct" the natural flavor of the wine. We do not welcome anything "aggressive."
"I believe Pinot Noir brings a sense of relaxed, natural pleasure and enhances delicious food."
