This brewery was founded in 1895 in Joyo City, Kyoto Prefecture. Blessed with abundant groundwater in the Yamashiro region in southern Kyoto Prefecture, the brewery produces high-quality sake using sake-making techniques nurtured over time and new initiatives and challenges. In addition, the brewery produces liqueurs (long-aged plum wine) and plum-related products made with the rare "Joshuhaku" plums grown in the local Aoya Plum Grove.
